The Frankenmuth Historical Association is seeking a dedicated Gift Shop Manager! 

This position is a part time/hourly position with work on some weekends and evenings included. 

The Gift Shop Manager is responsible for a variety of tasks, including, but not limited to:

  • Supervising daily operation of a gift shop; meets, greets, and assists public in selecting gifts and other merchandise; supervising staff also engaged in service of public. 

  • Organizing a plan for the display and presentation of merchandise with consideration to an established marketing plan and for effective support of sales; changing displays regularly with a consideration to buying audience and season.

  • Serving as a buyer with consideration to working with a budget, meeting with vendors and product representatives to select marketable goods and gifts appropriate to the potential buying audience, seasons, and customer demand.

  • Recruiting, interviewing, and selecting sales personnel; providing an organized on-the-job staff training program; keeping records and making administrative and personnel reports as needed. 

  • Supervising and coordinating the work of assigned staff, planning staff work schedules according to the projected business levels.

  • Monitoring sales through the cash register, resolving discrepancies, preparing, reconciling, and recording cash receipts for deposit and prepares sales reports. 

  • Monitoring general housekeeping cleanliness within the area; ensuring that equipment and facilities remain in good standing and that employee and customer safety standards are maintained. 

  • Performing miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Include:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Management or related field or at least four years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

  • Excellent work ethic and time management skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Strong verbal and communication skills.

Applicant Must Have a Knowledge Of:

  • Merchandising techniques, store display, and selling methods.

  • Retail management, promotion, and marketing methods.

  • Merchandise buying procedures and market values.

  • Administrative procedures, personnel management, and supervisory techniques.

  • Cash management principles and/or procedures.

  • Operation of a computerized cash register.

Reporting Relationship:

  • The Gift Shop Manager will work under the general direction of the Executive Director of the Frankenmuth Historical Association.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Most work is performed in a normal gift shop environment and some community settings.

  • Able to stand hours at a time.

  • Able to lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds. 

  • Able to reach, bend, stoop, lift, and move arms above shoulder level.

  • Concentrate and complete tasks in the presence of distractions.

  • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet, telephone, Point of Sale system, calculator, cash register, printer, copier, anything requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.

  • Able to work at varied times, including weekends and evenings.
